Made in Europe, under one roof.
Short answer: Romina Furniture is made in Europe, in our own factory. We're manufacturers, not a distributor. Every stage, from selecting solid wood logs to the final hand-applied finish, happens under one roof. The business began in 1991 with a third-generation furniture artisan and a small shop. Today we build cribs, dressers and beds from 100% solid wood, with water-based Greenguard Gold certified finishes, and we plant five saplings for every tree we cut.
Who makes Romina furniture?
We do. "Unlike most furniture stores, we are manufacturers." The factory is ours, so we design, make and finish every piece ourselves. That matters for a nursery brand, because we know what goes into each crib: the wood, the glue, the finish and the hardware.
Our story started in 1991 with a third-generation furniture artisan and a small shop. We've since traded hand saws for precision machinery, but the standard hasn't changed: "from our family to yours."
The people matter too. Women make up most of our production and management teams: mothers, sisters and daughters, with a particular eye for detail.

What happens inside the factory?
Every Romina piece follows the same path, all in the same building.
- Selecting the wood. We work in 100% solid wood. "No shortcuts in the core." Our hardwood takes about 26 years to mature and has a higher FAS grading score than red oak, birch and maple.
- Drying. We dry boards with steam to about 8% moisture. "Too dry, it splits. Too wet, it warps." There are no chemicals in the process: dry, steam and repeat.
- Machining and building. "Machinery starts the cut. Artisans give the wood color and function." Drawer boxes are joined with English dovetails, cases are reinforced with corner bracketing, and we use concealed fasteners.
- Finishing. A 10-step finish: stain then sand, three times over, then a clear coat, a sand and a final seal. No chemical accelerants, no lead, no phthalates.
- Hardware and packing. Hydraulic soft-close drawer glides rated for 80,000 cycles (about 73 years), then from "kiln-dried boards to a boxed piece, all in the same building."

Why does "one roof" matter for a crib?
When a brand assembles parts made by several suppliers, it's harder to know exactly what's in the finish, the glue or the board. Making everything in one factory lets us control:
- Materials: solid wood only, never particleboard or MDF.
- Adhesives: water-based and tree-sap based glues with no formaldehyde.
- Finishes: organic, water-based colour agents and Greenguard Gold certification. "Greenguard Gold is the floor, not a badge we borrowed."
- Consistency: the same people, tooling and standards for every piece.
That's also why all our products are Greenguard Gold certified, not just a flagship model. Our products are tested for over 350 VOCs and 10,000 chemicals.
What does "Made in Europe" mean on a Romina product page?
It means the piece was built in our own European factory, not sourced from a third-party plant and relabelled. You'll see "Made in Europe" in the construction key facts on our product listings, next to "100% Solid Hardwood", "Non-toxic, water-based and organic oil finishes" and "Greenguard Gold Certified". Drawer glides are Hettich hydraulic soft-close hardware, fitted in our factory. If you'd like to know more about a specific piece, our team is happy to answer through our contact page.
How does Romina approach sustainability?
- Five for one. We follow the European treaty for forest re-harvesting: "for every tree we cut, we plant five saplings."
- Waste wood is used. Offcuts heat our workshops in winter or become packaging, and a sister company turns byproduct into ethanol.
- Built to last. The most sustainable crib is one that doesn't end up in a landfill. Our convertible cribs grow through five stages, from Standard Crib (0–24 months) to Toddler Bed and Daybed (24 months–4 years) to Full Size Bed and Customised Full Size Bed (4 years to forever).
Is furniture made in Europe safe for US nurseries?
Yes. Where a crib is made doesn't change the rules it must meet to be sold in the US. All Romina products meet US standards and CPSC requirements, our cribs are periodically tested to meet and exceed CPSC and ASTM standards, and they meet Canadian regulations too. On top of that, every product is Greenguard Gold certified for low chemical emissions.
Romina Furniture has never had an official product safety recall.
How does Romina furniture get to my home?
Most items in our online store ship free as palletised curbside delivery. In some areas, White Glove Delivery or expert installation with packaging removal is available for an extra cost. Quick-Ship sets have an estimated 2–4 week fulfillment. Most made-to-order cribs ship in about 12–14 weeks, because they're hand-finished to order.
