JUST LIKE PARENTING, QUALITY IS A JOURNEY, NOT A DESTINATION
Quality is something that one must experience and it's rather personal. Quality is made of layers of feelings and it's something that you discover and enjoy. Quality is quiet and discreet, it's comfort, pride, peace of mind, confidence and much more and just like parenting, it is a journey. Our furniture journey starts with material selection, the beautiful hardwwood Nature allows us to harvest, and organic glues and finishes and most advanced hardware systems and all wisked together and then sprinkled with passion.
NOT ALL WOOD IS CREATED EQUAL
Some woods make great campfires, some are good for construction, other for flooring and some are better for furniture. Beechwood is the best hardwood for furniture manufacturing. It does take 23-26 years for a beech tree to reach maturity but it is dense and durable. Beech is also the most aboundand hardwood species in Europe and most eco-consciously harvested according to FSC. For every beech tree that is cut down, five saplings are planted in the same area.
BEECH IS THE BEST HARDWOOD FOR FURNITURE
Beech lumber scores higher than Red Oak, Maple, or Birch for all furniture manufacturing criterias (impact resistance, finishing, environmental changes and machanical transformations).
STEAM, DRY & REPEAT
Our wood goes through a non-chemical drying and calibration before enters the production cycle. This technique is often refred to as the "kiln-drying process" but we use modern technologies and our kiln looks more like a spaceship than an oven. The drying process can take several months, depending on the density and thicknesses of the boards and their intended application. In order to preserve the mechanical and environmental resistance of the wood, the moisture content of each board never exceeds eight percent.
IT TAKES TIME
Soft woods grow fast but absorb a lot of water which is eliminated during the drying stage resulting in a low wood mass and density. Hardwoods take time to grow, a longer to dry but they last much longer than softwoods. A 5 in 1 Convertible crib made of hardwood will certainly last through the toddler, pre-k years and beyond!
PASSION & SKILLS
We utilize precision cutting machinery and highly trained furniture artisans to shape up the wood and give is purpose. This beautiful material spends approx. four weeks advancing from basic calibration to layout cutting, pre-assembly or pre-finishing and surface optimization then finishing and hardware installation. If it sounds like a lot of work, well quality doesn't just happen by accident, there is work but also passion and enthusiams into this endeavor. Each baby furniture piece is carefully inspected, each crib and dresser goes through a rigurous three step quality control process.
DOING THINGS RIGHT, WHEN NOBODY IS WATCHING
Noteworthy: Most of our employees in the Pre-finishing and Quality Control departments are Women. These are mothers and sister and daughters who share our passion for furniture but more importantly are the best at something very specific: attention to detail.
10-STEP FINISHING PROCESS
Unlike most babies, when the furniture is ready to be dressed, it stays still in our special finishing rooms. After the first coating of stain or paint dries off, the furniture goes back to prefinishing department where the surface is smoothen out again (sanded). Then the finishing process is repeated 3 times. When the finish is rich and consistent, the clear coating or sealant is applied, sandaed down and applied again one more time. This layered application allows for the finish to be properly absorbed and there is no need to use chemical accelerants or Lead.
ORGANIC AND HEALTHY
Our water-based and oil-based finishes are equality healthy and durable and both use an organic, vegetable-based color agent. Oil-based finishes are sealed with a bees-wax and mineral oil layer. Whether you are looking for a classic or a convertible crib, a double dresser or a single dresser for changing the baby, both water and oil-based finishes are great choices
HYDRAULIC SOFT-CLOSING
All Romina doors and drawers feature German-made hardware systems. These systems are equipped with a hydraulic soft-closing mechanism, full extension, anti-detachment, and adjustment features. These details do a lot more than just sound fancy. They are included in our furniture pieces to provide you with maximum functionality, usability, safety, and longevity. , which equates to just over 70 years’ worth of average use. Our hinges feature a 120-degree opening and 360-degree adjustment, while glides feature a one-piece steel track, that when installed, can hold up to 30kg, or 66lbs, of weight. You won’t find drawers that open and close more smoothly and quietly anywhere else. Glides and hinges are made of zinc-plated, anti-corrosive steel which is permanently lubricated and load reinforced.
80,000 CYCLES OR ABOUT 73 YEARS
