Buy the nursery once, then add to it as your child grows.
Short answer: furniture that grows with your child is furniture that keeps a job after the baby years. At Romina that starts with a 5-stage convertible crib that becomes a full-size bed with a $530 conversion kit, and a double dresser that works as a changing station first and a regular dresser later. You can then add matching hutches ($1,505), desks ($2,225), bookcases (from $1,780), tall chests (from $2,055), nightstands (from $1,030) and twin or full beds (from $1,640) in the same collection and finish. Everything is 100% solid wood, Greenguard Gold certified and Made in Europe.
What does "furniture that grows with your child" actually mean?
It means two things. First, some pieces change shape: a convertible crib turns into a toddler bed, a daybed and finally a full-size bed. Second, some pieces simply stay useful: a well-built dresser, bookcase or nightstand works just as well in a teen's room as in a nursery.
The trick is to choose a collection that has both kinds of pieces, so you can add to the room over the years without starting again. Romina's collections, including Karisma, Antonio, Cleopatra, Imperio, Dakota, New York and Uptown, are designed that way: cribs, dressers, beds and storage in matching designs and finishes.

Which pieces should I buy now, and which later?
You don't need a teen room on day one. Here's a simple plan by age, using Romina's own stage guide for the crib:
| Age | What the room needs | Romina pieces |
|---|---|---|
| 0–24 months | Crib, changing station, clothes storage | 5-stage convertible crib, double dresser with a changing tray |
| 24 months–4 years | A low bed the child can climb in and out of | Same crib as a toddler bed (toddler rail sold separately) or daybed |
| 4 years and up | A real bed, books and toys | Full-bed conversion kit ($530), bookcase, hutch on the dresser |
| School age | Homework space, more clothes storage | Desk with hutch, tall chest, nightstand |
| Teen years | A grown-up bedroom | The same full bed, dresser and storage, or a new twin or full bed |
The two pieces you buy first, the crib and the dresser, are the ones that carry through the whole plan. That's why it's worth getting those right. Our guide on when to convert a crib to a toddler bed covers the first transition in detail.
How does a convertible crib become a teen bed?
Every Romina convertible crib follows the same five stages: Standard Crib (0–24 months), Toddler Bed and Daybed (24 months–4 years), then Full Size Bed and Customised Full Size Bed (4 years to forever).
The full-bed stage uses a conversion kit, for example the Karisma Conversion Kit or the New York Full-Bed Conversion Kit, both $530. The kit adds full-length side rails and slats, and the box spring is included: no separate box spring needed, just add a standard full mattress (54 × 75 in). A full-size bed is big enough for a teenager, so the crib you bought for a newborn can still be the bed they sleep in at 16.

Can the nursery dresser stay in a teen room?
Yes, and it's probably the piece you'll keep longest. Romina's double dressers have 6 drawers, English dovetail joints and hydraulic soft-closing European drawer glides rated for 80,000 cycles. In the nursery, a changing tray sits on top. Later, you take the tray off and it's a regular dresser.
You can also add a hutch on top. Hutches such as the Antonio Hutch are designed to be placed onto the desk or the double dresser, attach to the lower unit with metal brackets, and include a wall-anchoring kit. The bottom shelf is adjustable. That turns a nursery dresser into a display and storage wall for books, trophies and collections. See using a nursery dresser as a changing table for the baby years.
Which pieces do the collections offer for older kids?
Here are the main "later" pieces and their lowest listed prices as of October 2026:

| Hutch | Antonio, Cleopatra, Dakota, Imperio, Karisma | $1,505 |
| Desk | Antonio, Cleopatra | $2,225 |

Prices and options change, so check each product page before you plan a budget.

Bookcase, tall chest or hutch: which storage piece comes first?
- Bookcase first if your toddler is surrounded by picture books and toys. The Antonio Bookcase is extra wide and deep, with 3 adjustable shelves and a bottom drawer for the things you'd rather hide away.
- Tall chest first if clothes storage is the problem and floor space is tight. The Imperio Tall Chest has five large drawers and takes up little floor space.
- Hutch first if you already have the double dresser and want shelves without using more floor. It sits on top of the dresser now and can move onto a desk later.
Whatever you add, anchor tall pieces to the wall. Children climb, at every age.
Twin bed or full bed for a big-kid room?
If you converted the crib, you already have a full bed. If you're furnishing a second child's room, a guest room or simply want a separate bed, both sizes are available:
- Twin beds suit small bedrooms and shared rooms. The Uptown Twin Bed is described as a great choice for small bedrooms, active teenagers or a guest room. The box spring is included; just add a standard twin mattress.
- Full beds give more room for a growing teen. The box spring is included here too; just add a standard full mattress. Some, like the Karisma Full Bed, come with an open or solid back.

How do I keep the room matching for 15+ years?
Pick one collection and one finish and stay with them. Romina offers 13 finishes, shown on the finishes page; check each product page for the finishes that piece comes in. Two things to keep in mind:
- Solid wood is natural. Grain and tone vary from tree to tree, so a piece bought years later may look slightly different next to the original. That's normal for real wood.
- Small marks are fixable. A Touch-Up Kit ($25) is available for small marks.
Choosing a style that will still feel right at 14 helps too. Clean, simple designs such as Karisma or New York tend to age well. If you prefer something more decorative, our guide to statement cribs compares Dakota, Antonio and Cleopatra.
What does one room look like over the years?
Here's one example in the Karisma collection, using list prices as of October 2026. Spread out like this, the room is bought in three smaller steps instead of all at once:
| When | What you add | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Before baby arrives | Karisma Nursery Set (convertible crib + double dresser) | $3,908 |
| Around age 4 | Karisma Conversion Kit + Karisma Bookcase | $530 + $2,085 |
| School age | Karisma Hutch on the dresser, Karisma Tall Chest, Karisma Nightstand | $1,505 + $2,164 + $1,110 |
You don't have to buy every piece. Plenty of families stop after the crib, dresser and conversion kit. The point is that the option is there, in the same design, whenever the room needs more.
Is it worth paying more for furniture that lasts?
Only if you'll actually keep it. Solid wood furniture costs more up front than flat-pack, but a crib that ends up as a teen's full bed and a dresser with 73-year drawer glides are used for far longer than two years. Divide the price by the years of use and the gap narrows fast. Our cost-per-year guide runs the numbers for cribs.
If you move often or plan to redecorate every few years, cheaper furniture may suit you better. If you want to buy once and add slowly, a matching solid wood collection is the easier path. For the build itself, see is solid wood good for baby furniture.
FAQ
Can a Romina crib really become a teen bed?
Yes. With the full-bed conversion kit, Romina convertible cribs become a full-size bed, the final stage of the 5-stage design, for 4 years and up.
Do Romina twin and full beds need a box spring?
No. The box spring is included, so you only add a standard twin or full mattress.
Can I put a hutch on the nursery dresser?
Yes. Hutches such as the Antonio Hutch are designed to sit on the desk or the double dresser and attach with metal brackets; a wall-anchoring kit is included.
Can I buy pieces years apart and still match?
You can order the same collection and finish later. Because solid wood varies naturally, expect small differences in grain and tone.
What's the warranty?
Romina cribs and case goods carry a 3-year warranty. Drawer glides are rated for 80,000 cycles. Details are on the warranty page.
